An Invitation

Quaker Center is not just a beautiful place – it is a living community that seeks to “put into practice the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, honesty, equality, peace, and right stewardship,” in the words of our mission statement.

You are invited to be part of this community by participating in the care of Quaker Center with your contributions of time, talent, and treasure. It takes many kinds of gifts, large and small, to keep Quaker Center vital – is there an opportunity below that speaks to you?

FRIEND IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM

We are welcoming applications from members of monthly meetings to serve terms from 6 weeks to 6 months. We are open to slightly fine-tuning the time period and responsibilities for a Friend who might have a different interest. We need people who are generally physically fit and open to the ever-changing schedule of Quaker Center with the comings and goings of rental groups each weekend and sojourners midweek. The Friend in Residence will act as an elder for our morning worship, lead a weekly Quaker-themed reading and discussion, help with hospitality, participate in community shared-work and meals each week, and share on-call duties with resident staff. In return, the Friends in Residence will have the opportunity to live in the one-bedroom apartment adjacent to the office, receive reimbursement for food costs, attend any onsite Quaker Center programs during their residency, and the time and serene atmosphere in which to do personal spiritual work. Applicants should send a letter of interest, and a letter of recommendation from their monthly meeting, as well as the contact information for two individual Friends, to the Co-Directors at Quaker Center. We believe this new position can offer participants a marvelous respite from the stress of everyday life “in the world” and an opportunity to spiritually recharge in our community among the redwoods, while simultaneously serving Quaker Center.
