“ God is at home. It is we who have gone out for a walk.”
~ Meister Eckhart, c. 1260 – c. 1328

We all can experience awakenings to the Presence during various occasions in our lives. Friends have found
some forms or activities to be trusted means to the awakenings to the Presence around which our Quaker
faith tradition has been shaped. The pattern of each of our days together will offer opportunities such as

  • Meeting for worship
  • Sharing our experiences as Friends
  • Bible reading and reflection
  • Time in nature
  • Explorations of how we might witness to our awakenings

Over the course of the week, we will look at the process of transformation that is inspired by our awakenings
to the Presence, from longing for meaning, to glimpses beyond the veil, to experiencing the “Refiner’s Fire”
and the grace that strengthens us to surrender to the Life and Power of a Spirit-filled witness.

About the facilitators

The four of us met 22 years ago and were all members of Chico Friends Meeting then and for much of the time since. Despite the geographical distance created when Kathy and Bob moved to Quaker Center to serve as its Co-Directors, we have held onto a deep and important friendship, strengthened by our regularly shared participation in Quaker Center programs. Our conversations often engage us in questions about what nourishes our faith, personally and as a community. Sharing the work of this program expresses our desire to further explore our Quaker faith and practices with one another and with friends. In it we seek to search for ways that we, as a community, might grow together in greater faithfulness and vitality, awakening to the Presence that promises transformation.
