Friend in Residence Program

We welcome applications from members of monthly meetings to serve terms from 6 weeks to 6 months. The Friend in Residence will act as an elder for our morning worship, participate in community shared-work (often in the garden), join in community meals each week, and help with hospitality, sharing on-call duties with resident staff. We are open to a slightly different plan for Friends with something else in mind. In return, the Friends in Residence will have the opportunity to live in the one-bedroom (with queen sized bed) apartment adjacent to the office, receive reimbursement for food costs, attend any onsite Quaker Center programs during their residency, and have time and a serene atmosphere in which to do personal spiritual work. We need people who are generally physically fit and open to the ever-changing schedule of Quaker Center with the comings and goings of rental groups and sojourners each weekend and sometimes midweek as well.

Applicants should send a letter of interest, and a letter of recommendation from their monthly meeting, as well as the contact information for two individual Friends, to the Co-Directors at Quaker Center. We believe this new position can offer participants a marvelous respite from the stress of everyday life “in the world” and an opportunity to spiritually recharge in our community among the redwoods, while simultaneously serving Ben Lomond Quaker Center.
