Deep Wells – Living Water

with Deborah Shaw
December 27, 2018 – January 1, 2019

Program flyer

“Deep within us all there is an amazing inner sanctuary of the soul, a holy place, a Divine Center, a speaking Voice, to which we may continuously return. Eternity is at our hearts, pressing upon our time-torn lives, warming us with intimations of an astounding destiny, calling us home unto Itself.”

~ Thomas Kelly

In this time of year end retreat, we will press the pause button and seek to sink into a time of reflection, refreshment and renewal of our time-torn lives. Engaging in spiritual practices (from the Friends tradition and others) will guide us as we seek to refill and refresh our own spiritual wells. In cultivating and nurturing our spiritual selves, the Living Water can restore us to wholeness and balance.

This retreat will speak to those who enjoy contemplative, reflective practices. We will engage in worship, individual and group reflection, writing and sharing. “Lecture” will be at a minimum – instead we will be deeply experiencing practices that will help us in returning to our true center.

Participants are encouraged to bring a journal or other writing materials. Please also bring a brief reading, poem, piece of art or music that has spoken deeply to you in the past year. There will be space to share these in the group.

About the program facilitator:
Deborah Shaw is a life-long Friend for whom the spiritual quest has been a priority. Her work for the past 25 years was with the Friends Center at Guilford College guiding young people in their spiritual formation, and helping nurture Friends faith and practice in the life of the school through spiritual accompaniment of students, staff and faculty. During that time Deborah has travelled widely among Friends, leading numerous retreats at Ben Lomond, Woodbrooke and Pendle Hill Retreat Centers and for various monthly meetings. Creating safe space for spiritual retreat, reflection and deepening continues to be her heart’s work.
