THE ANNUAL COMMUNITY WORKCAMP
AUG. 28 - SEPT. 4, 2000
Each year friends of Quaker Center gather for a special time of family, fun, and good works. We envision this week as an intergenerational experiment in good village life: a place for Friends to gather to work, worship, and have fun together. The workcamp is an opportunity for parents to share Quaker values with their children, for non-parents to lend their talents in giving the next generation roots to grow from and wings to fly with, and for everyone to contribute to the welfare of Quaker Center.
We will undertake a wide variety of large and small projects, designed with both the skilled worker and the novice in mind. Among other activities, we expect to be building new storage and trash sheds, repairing bathroom floors, splitting firewood, painting, landscaping, pruning, and maintaining our trails.
Friends may attend for a day, a few days, or the entire week. The largest number of participants usually join us for the Labor Day Weekend. The week is free to all volunteers. Contributions towards the cost of meals will be gratefully accepted.
COME FOR THE DAY, A FEW, OR THE WEEK!
ABOUT THE WORKCAMP:
Participants may attend for one day, a few days, or a whole week. Please register in advance so that work projects can be planned and the proper food bought.
There is no cost to participants for the workcamp, but we will happily accept contributions to defray the cost of food. (We suggest $2.50 per meal per adult and $1.25 per meal for children.) Accommodations will be in the Redwood and the Orchard Lodges. Participants should bring their own bedding (sheets and blankets or sleeping bag, pillow case, and towel), soap, a flashlight, insect repellant, and comfortable work clothes. A small fan might help cool your bedroom in the evening. Additional items like games, musical instruments, gloves, and tools would be helpful.
The Workcamp will begin on Monday afternoon, August 28, at 1:00 p.m. with supper being the first meal served. We will conclude with lunch and final clean-up on Labor Day, Monday, September 4th. Each evening after supper there will be a half hour Meeting for Worship. Friends will be encouraged to organize fun evening activities. Anyone who is particularly interested in leading work projects with young people should contact the Quaker Center office.
